Part I - Bonkers over button bracelets!

I wonder into the notion department of a fabric store every now and then.  Each time I'm awe struck by the unique buttons.  The colors, textures and shapes are amazing. So many beauties to pick from.  I sometimes  think, if I'm not careful, a clerk might kick me out for drooling on the buttons!

I've been surfing around on the Internet to see what designers are doing with buttons and it intrigues me.  I must admit I'm going bonkers over buttons and I can't get enough.  In this post, I'm going to share some of the information I've found and link you to it.

One of my favorite and a well known websites to check out for information is Beading Gem (aptly named, it is a GEM)!  To see these three posts from the Beading Gem Journal go here here and here!
One of my favorite button bracelets is above. Obstinate Pursuit created this lovely shank Button and Bead tutorial. It is perfection!
Above you see a popular way of combining buttons and beads to make a bracelet.  Also, this is a good example of making a closure with beads.  If you hit here, you will be linked to "All Free Beaded Jewelry" for a tutorial of this bracelet.

A simple way to make a button bracelet is to glue buttons to a base bracelet. I found this tutorial at "A Button Lady" for you, here.
Some beads have a rugged look that would be great to use in embellishing an elastic or leather cuff.  For a tutorial of the above bracelet, hit here, it's  from dyinetwork.com.

I will leave you with the above video of how to make a button bracelet with elastic thread.
Here are few photos to inspire you too!

  1. They are all gorgeous and thanks for sharing all the links. Buttons were what got me started on the whole jewelery journey I've been on for the last few years. One of the first things I made was a bracelet using shank buttons that I scoured all the second had shops for. I entered it in one of Erin Praiz-Hintz challenges and won. It was a great confidence booster and I will be forever grateful to her for encouraging me to enter.
